 February 3, 2012      Professional Development Day


February 3rd has two purposes.

1. Under the direction of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario, teachers will take part in Self Directed Professional Learning for the day. Teachers will determine the learning opportunities that best meet their needs. They are expected to work within their schools or at an alternate board site, if working with a colleague.

2. During a portion of this self-directed PD Day, school staff members are required to complete two separate online sessions:
1. WHMIS training (either A or B):
A) WHMIS - General (for non-science teachers and members of the EAA)
B) WHMIS for Science Teachers (for teaching staff teaching science courses)
2. Violence and Harassment in the Workplace

Students do not attend school on February 3.

Ontario EcoSchools - Empire is Gold!
In the spring of 2007 Empire PS became the first school in Waterloo Region to be  certified an Ontario Ecoschool, due to the conservation efforts of  the school community and the many environmental projects undertaken by students. Going Green at Empire - Litter Free Lunches
Please send a healthy litter free lunch
Please consider using reusable containers for
your child’s lunches in order to lessen the
amount of garbage we send to the landfill.
Reusable water bottles are strongly encouraged.








Kindergarten

For the 2011-2012 school year, Empire will be on an All Day/ Alternate Day schedule for kindergarten.  Kindergarten students will attend on either a Monday and Wednesday or a Tuesday and Thursday basis with rotating Fridays.
